Born in Birmingham, Colin met his wife Molly on the way to a football match and was a life-time Birmingham City fan. After serving 3 years in the RAF, Colin and Molly married in 1954. At the time Colin was working as a cashier for Lloyds Bank and he moved to the Island with Molly and their two young children in 1968 having been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1966.
Another great love of Colin’s was the Boys Brigade which he joined at the aged of 9. He went on to form the 1st Solihull Company before moving to the Island, where he started Companies in Ryde, Totland and Ventnor. He also encouraged all companies on the Island to join together as a Battalion and taking the boys camping.
As if family, work and Boys Brigade wasn’t enough, Colin also found the time to devote to starting the local branch of the MS Society with two other people. Colin was very active on the Committee serving in a number of roles, including President, and gave much of his time to social events and fundraising.
Retiring in 1989 due to ill-health, Colin continued to be as active as he could – always with a smile. He greatly enjoyed playing cards with friends, whether at the Adelaide, Age Concern or at home.
The funeral will be held at the Isle of Wight Crematorium in Newport at 12.45 on Thursday 31st January. Colin requested that people wear whatever colour they would like and that, other than close family, he would prefer people make donations to the MS Society for national research rather than floral tributes.
